Taro: the resident "Big Boy" at Whispering Pines, and his Momma's pride and joy!

Baby Taro at 2 months! What a sweetie! My how time flies! Its been over 6 years since my Taro Munchies came to own me! Errr, ahem. That would be Taro Toshi Akiro! Taro was very carefully hand selected from a reputable small time hobby breeder in the Midwest.

He is truly the best Akita that's owned me yet! He is the center of my home and welcomes each new Rescue dog in like a long lost friend, male or female, Akita or not. I wouldn't be able to do Rescue work without him. He puts to shame the myth that Akitas can not live with other dogs.

Taro, November 2002

Who says Akitas don't shed? Here's the results of a "bit" of fall coat blowing.

In early 2002, Taro was accidentally given three times the adult dosage of an antibiotic by a Vet that led him into a bought with TSG (Toxic Gut Syndrome) and ultimately led him to go into Bloat. Luckily he survived and has recovered well.

We owe thanks to noted Akita author, Barbara Bouyet, for recommending natural treatment methods to help Taro's intestinal tract recover from this, and also for treating his Staph infection. Its interesting to note that the natural herbs DID clear up his Staph infection, while the Antibiotics did NOT.

Ms. Bouyet has just released a new book on Akitas that is available here.
