Yellowstone Shooting Gallery 2

Yellowstone Shooting Gallery II
22" x 25" monoprint, lithograph, etching

In the heavy snows of winter, the bison herds of Yellowstone National Park sometimes wander outside the relative protection of the park to search for food. Once out of the park and in Montana cattle country, the bison are seen as a possible threat to the cattle industry and of course are shot on sight.

The layout of the overall design is the map of Yellowstone National Park. The bison silhouettes around the park represent ducks in a shooting gallery, and where they pass through the Montana state border, they are highlighted in a danger-red. The bison inside the park comes from another image of mine … "Bonsai Bison" … a print about controlling Nature in order to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Henceforth, the poodle-cut look of the bison.
