Charles Hess (b.Penn. d.abt.1820 on the Minnesota River). As a boy his parents & siblings were killed by an unknown tribe in Pennsylavia. By 1802 he was in the Pembina, North Dakota area. Charles married an Ojibwe/Cree women.
Emanuel Hesse was a trader out of Prairie du Chien in 1780 and in the
spring of that year he was sent by the British commander of Mackinac (
Sinclair) to gather an Indian force at the Wisc./Fox portage for an attack
on Spanish St.Louis.
