Antoine was employed by McTavish & Frbisher (Northwest Fur Co.)
from 1795 to 1805. He had retired from the fur trade in 1805 and had taken
up residence on Red Deer Lake. While returning east from Astoria on the
Columbia River in 1814, G.Franchere, J.G. McTavish, D.Stuart, J.Clark,
B.Pillet, W.Wallace & D.McGillis, met Antoine with his two boys &
two girls gathering eggs on Lac La Biche. Antoine was from Varrennes in
Canada and while working for the Northwest Co. his travels included Grand
Portage, Fort Coulonge, Themiscaming, Grand River, Lac La Pluie (Rainy
Lake) & the lower Red River.
