"There's like this pecking order in the service. The Regulars, the guys who serve full-time, look down on the reserves, who are part-timers who mostly served in the regulars before. "They, in turn, look down on us, the National Guardsmen. They act like we're some kinda amateurs because in peacetime we served part-time, and because we never had the gear the regulars and reserves had. "On the other hand, in civilian life I worked for a demolition company. I can take down a bridge faster than any of those kids in the regular Engineers. I'm so good with explosives, I can can practically make them sing. That's something the Regular Army just doesn't teach." The rules regarding reservists in Twilight were appropriate for the US Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Reserves, but not for many other types of reservists found in the world. Here is an optional, more detailed way of treating reservists. Reservists can be of one of the following three types: RESERVISTS exactly as described in the "Twilight" rules. These soldiers serve at least a term as regular soldiers, then devote each subsequent term's secondary activity to the reserve, getting a "subsequent term" skill every term. This is as in Twilight 2000. Examples of this are the US Army Reserve and the British Territorial Army, as well as most of the Israeli Army. NATIONAL GUARD This takes less time. Troops may maintain a civilian career, but spend TWO CONSECUTIVE TERMS secondary activities (The Guard usually involves at least six years' commitment) gaining Basic Training and First Term skills in the Army or Air Force career of their choice. They roll for initiative as reservists. They may then choose to continue serving as active reservists, become inactive, or leave the service. In wartime, they will serve in their military career. THIS IS AVAILABLE ONLY IN THE US, BRITISH AND GERMAN ARMIES. IT IS, IN ADDITION, REQUIRED OF ALL MALE SWISS CHARACTERS HOME GUARD Home Guard troops spend one secondary activity period learning the following skills: |

They then may serve as Inactive Reservists, rolling for initiative as civilians. In wartime, they generally serve as Internal Security troops (Leg Infantry), gaining wartime skills ONLY from the Leg Infantry Subsequent Term skills charts. THIS IS AVAILABLE TO CIVILIAN CHARACTERS FROM SEVERAL NATO NATIONS--NOT THE US, CANADA, OR GREAT BRITAIN. IT IS ALSO FOUND IN FINLAND, SWEDEN, CHINA AND SOUTH AFRICA.. |
