 Musician

“Musician” is the ability to play a musical instrument.

I’m making it an optional skill available in several areas (Entertainer, University, Graduate University and Military Musician).  At referee’s discretion, it should also be a background skill.

All musican skills cascade throughout a “family” of instruments - in other words, an oboe player (in the “Double Reed” family) can probably squawk out a tune on an bassoon, but will probably not be much of a guitar player.

The practical aspects of Music in a campaign setting are probably rare, with two exceptions:

  • Freelancing: A musician can roll Average:Musician to make money as a musician (add a level for instruments outside the specialty family)
  • Morale: Some instruments (bagpipes, bugles) can optionally provide a one-level drop in coolness under fire rating for a period of a few turns.  Roll Difficult: Musician.  This is, of course, at referee’s discretion.

Instrument Families

Musicians can play their specialty instrument in the family at the listed level - in other words, a musican can have a Musican (Bagpipe) 5 rating.

Musicians can play all instruments in their family at a 0 level.  (Musicians can also take points in several instruments in the same family.)
