 British Enfields

Lee Enfield #1.

This rifle, in service from 1903 until the 1950s, was never fully replace by the Mark 4 depicted in the Infantry Weapons guide. Solid, reliable, and built in massive numbers, it is found (and fairly common) wherever the British have been in the last 100 years. It is a front-line weapon in police units in some African former colonies to this day.

Lee Enfield Mk V

In 1942-43, the British looked at the American M1 Carbine with great envy - and decided to build a short, handy weapon of their own. The results - the Mark V - were decidedly mixed, A cut-down Mark IV with a shorter barrel and handgrip, it still fires the full-power .303 round. As a result the Mk V has a hard kick and massive muzzle blast and flash. It was quite common in service in India and Burma, though, and still found in some numbers there, as well as among American collectors.
